USB
CD Burner Toggle 1.0

Mac
users running Mac OS 9.x are very enthusiastic about Apple's iTunes and Disc
Burner applications. However, since Disc Burner cannot
easily burn bootable CDs (unless a disk image of a bootable
disk has been previously created) and iTunes cannot
burn CDs in DAO (disk-at-once) mode, it is still necessary
to keep Roxio's Toast CD-burning software for these
purposes — and in most cases it is impossible to keep all
of the files necessary to run all of these applications
active at the same time. It is very annoying to switch
back and
forth
between sets of extensions using Extensions Manager or Conflict
Catcher and then rebooting just to change CD-burning applications.
I
have written an AppleScript application for this purpose
that
makes rebooting unnecessary if the CD burner is a USB burner
(though it is still required that the CD burner be turned
off and then back on). If you are still using a USB CD
burner with Mac OS 9.x, you may find it useful.
It's called USB
CD Burner Toggle 1.0, and it can be downloaded here.
NOTE: If
you have Roxio's Toast Titanium 5.x, this workaround
is not necessary.
Renato
Brazioli has kindly contributed an Italian
localization of this utility. (That is to say, the
dialogs are still in English, but the folder names and
other parts of the system that are different in Italian
than those in the English version of the OS have been
changed in the script for compatibility with the Italian
version of Mac OS 9x.)
